Procedure
KYBELLA is one of the most anticipated treatments to become available at our San Diego County practice in recent years because double chins are such a common cosmetic concern. This area of fat is typically very stubborn, which is why even thin people can have a double chin. In the past, a surgical liposuction procedure was the only solution, but people can now choose injectable KYBELLA instead.
KYBELLA is made using a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in the body and helps break down and absorb dietary fat. When it’s injected in the area just below the chin, it destroys fat cells. Once the fat cells die, they are naturally flushed away by the body, leaving a smooth, trim contour.
Expectations
Each KYBELLA treatment session includes a series of injections. When you arrive for treatment, a nurse thoroughly cleans the treatment area, and Dr. Stuart then carefully marks the location of each injection. She customizes your procedure based on her physical evaluation. Most treatment sessions include between 20 and 30 injections, although up to 50 are possible.
A local anesthetic numbs the area and ensures your comfort while Dr. Stuart performs the quick injections. The entire session lasts about 15 to 20 minutes.
After Your Treatment
While experiences vary, most patient require no recovery time after KYBELLA treatments, although some swelling and bruising is normal. You may return to work or other normal daily activities. A turtleneck or scarf can easily hide any signs of the treatment.
The results emerge gradually, and most patients see a reduction in their double chins after 2 to 4 treatment sessions.1 Up to 6 sessions may be needed to get the results you want.
